Electrical Engineer
[APPLY]

Summary:

LOCATION: OHIO

POSITION PURPOSE (1-2 sentences): Under the direction of the supervising engineer: fabricates, assembles, and tests motor drives and power converters for free-piston Stirling engines and cryocoolers and other linear, resonant machines. Hardware oriented position that requires integration of electronic controllers with prototype mechanical systems working with a multi-disciplined team.

CORE DUTIES (Must do functions)

1.      Work with and communicate clearly with non-electrical engineers inside and outside of Sunpower in a way that is collaborative and constructive.

2.      Understand Sunpower’s unique machines and the role that the custom electronic controllers play in providing total system performance to the end user.

3.      Use a range of electrical engineering disciplines including feedback control system design and analysis, analog and digital circuit design, power electronics and embedded control software design to assemble, test, and implement electronic controls for free-piston machines, for use in prototypes, internal research projects, and manufacturing.

4.      Use a variety of electrical engineering software such as circuit and system simulation software, schematic capture and PCB layout software and mathematical analysis tools to assist in the performance of engineering tasks.

5.      Perform tests to determine that electronic control systems integrated with mechanical devices conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.

6.      Prepare/present reports/documentation as required/requested.

ROUTINE FUNCTIONS (Lower priority than core)

1.      Continue to develop engineering skills through mentorship and formal education.

2.      Provide guidance to technicians, as appropriate.

Provide guidance and input on projects, when requested

Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION (Be specific)

1.      Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

REQUIRED SKILLS

1.      Self-motivated to learn specifics of free-piston machines and understand how electronic controllers interact with them.

2.      Ability to work with advanced engineering mathematical concepts and modeling programs

3.      Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

4.      Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in mathematical or diagram form with numerous abstract and concrete variables.
